Temecula, CA – Today the Calendar presents the unabridged look at life in the nifty fifty with annotations from news views around the world as we prick the bubble called the American Dream, a false inception about the land of the free, home of the slave. Though we will sort through the racial rhetoric, it is not the purpose of this piece to convert anyone since racism is an emotion not a learned behavior, but to educate and illustrate which is the purpose of any publication. People can hang by the noose their heart puts around their own neck at judgment.

It must also be stated that the racism of America is unique from any other nation in the world and so prevalent that you can feel its ugly presence when you exit and return to the United States from Canada or Europe. As my late friend, William “Bill” Brummell, said once to me, “I didn’t know I was prejudiced until I went to London.” Racism affects everyone in America and isn’t only a black-white issue as the O’Reilly’s of the world would have you believe. Everyone in this country who isn’t white and male has experienced racism in some form, because at the heart of racial inequality is economic control and chauvinism. As John and Yoko so famously wrote in song, “Women are the niggers of the world.”

Temecula, CA – Years ago, because I was a parent at the time, my then-wife and I discovered a disturbing

trend; the rise of autism in small toddlers with the increasing vaccine schedule. We found an osteopath who shared our concerns and dropped the medical doctor who was pushing the schedule on us. That was in the 90s.

A decade later when I began to write for the Calendar, then called the Full Value Review, I posted a story with a video [2 parts] showing Senator RFK, Jr. elaborating on how the CDC, a federal agency tasked with keeping the nation’s health safe, had spent a weekend at a secret location massaging the figures showing a direct tie-in between vaccines and autism. Someone did the right thing and recorded the secret meeting, then slipped the notes to the Senator.

Even more recently, other articles have been posted here and a debate ensued with a healthcare worker at the Mall commuter bus stop over the issue. In April, 2014, Temecula ‘lit it up blue’ in a self-grandiose move for political fodder for the next city council election. The “quietly created and staffed” new division with its $150,000 budget is billed as a way to serve, educate, train, and employ autistic youth and adults seems sounds like a lot of bang for the buck, but in reality it's just another ‘plug ‘n’ play’ living off the overflow of a $52,000,000,000 vaccine industry. This at first repressed-later released story from CNN validates the Calendar.

And though I’ve partied with plenty of Irish, sober ones do exist just like black people who have no rhythm. Unicorns are different.

DEUCE REVEALS TRUTHS 

Temecula, CA – We were all saddened and shocked by Robin Williams death by suicide. Even Club Cosplay paused and played a long clip of famous Robin Williams’ characters’ one-liners or short monologues, to which the packed house cheered. A perfect way to open Club Cosplay Number Two, in view of the recent tragic event.

As varying opinions tried to logic reason for the suicide, a number of items were thrown out as red herrings; past flops, finances, manic-depressive/bi-polar history, alcoholism, even the onset of the degenerative disease Parkinson’s, which had been diagnosed. But in researching this aspect mentioned by Rob Schneider, the most likely reason for Robin Williams' suicide is the prescription medication[s] he started taking for the onset of Parkinson’s.

Naively I personally wondered if a friend offering him a joint might have helped, then I saw and remembered Robin Williams’ standup comedy and generation as talked of in Memoirs*. Of course Robin was hip to pot and that reveal adds weight to Schneider’s accusations.

CLUB COSPLAY, THE SEQUEL

TMNT, BATMOBILE, DWEEBCAST, DARK HELMET TURN OUT

Temecula, CA – Today more than any past time, the desire to be a hero, even a pretend hero, is greater than

at any other in our human cycle. Thankfully modern technology has made all our dreams come true while the real heroes partner unseen with forces such as Divine Intervention between the scenes. On Saturday, August 16 at M15, this reporter became a scribe to the second issue of Club Cosplay in Corona. This time the growing Cosplay scene for nerds like them featured a Transformer and an ‘origin shop’.

Following the highly successful first launch of Club Cosplay at M15 by Ivan Promotions earlier in the summer, this event was sandwiched between two geek events Friday and two events on Sunday, including SongHammer playing to three million gamer fans worldwide via internet, take that Rolling Stones in Rio [2 million record/beach]*.

This night also saw some old friends Paul Bahou with GF Melissa [Inverse band, The Infamous They] cosplaying Indiana Jones and Marion Ravenwood [ROTLA] and Jamaal Harley [Illnoise, Harley Gold] get his glitter eyeliner from a professional make-up artist in the green room. Over 60% of the crowd was brand new as this dress-up in costume club phenomena spreads. Walt Disney, now the owner of Marvel, is taking the entire Universe ‘on ice’ next year rather than the usual brunch of critters.

Let’s face it. With the state of the world and this country, who doesn’t yearn for a super hero to save us from ourselves?

AMERICAN RACISM

HOME OF THE SLAVE, LAND OF THE FLEE

Temecula, CA – Genesis 3 tells us about two seeds – the woman’s seed and the serpent’s seed. In America, you have black people and white people, but you also have people who are white and people who are black. There is a difference between the group designations.

In 1963 this author graduated high school in Louisville, Kentucky, a town just south of the Mason-Dixon Line. That summer seeking a job before I went away to college, I answered a newspaper ad for office manager, in training. The preliminary job interview over the phone went very well and the company owner was thrilled to talk to such an energetic and intelligent young man. I could hear him tell others in the office of the news about the potential new hire for the summer. You could also tell by the voices in the background that the office was all white.

Hanging up the phone excitedly, the interview was set for 4 o’clock that same day. 

Parking my mother’s car, I walked down the street to the office of my possible summer job. Knowing the office was all white, I was looking forward to the job as a way to experience the real world since the storied high school I attended seemed more a southern Walt Disney movie scenario with me a tanned Richie Cunningham/Fonzie mix. I felt prepared to be a good representation of my school and my race.

I straightened my tie and walked to the front door of my potential summer job.

EYEWITNESS WHO SAW FIRE FROM COP’S GUN

Temecula, CA – Though a 28 year old man has been gunned down in LA a few days ago, it is the 18 year

old teenager gunned down in cold blood in Ferguson, Mo, just outside of St. Louis that has the nation’s attention. As a service to our readers who have/are young readers and those who are black especially, here is the witness report from the exclusive interview granted to MSNBC journalist Trymaine Lee.

“The last moments of Michael Brown’s life were filled with shock, fear and terror, says a witness who stood just feet away as a police officer shot and killed the unarmed teen.

“I saw the barrel of the gun pointed at my friend,” said Dorian Johnson, 22. “Then I saw the fire come out of the barrel.”

Johnson, in an exclusive interview with msnbc, said what began as an order by a police officer to ‘get the f— onto the sidewalk’ quickly escalated into a physical altercation and then, gunfire.

I’M A HERO

CLUB COSPLAY 2.0

Temecula, CA – “I play a little bit of guitar. My education hasn’t gotten me far. I’m a gamer I don’t

Those words from track 7 off of World Of SongHammer match up with the character sentiments expressed by LeeAnna Vamp’s geek in Strike Twelve’s No Rain cover vid. Now in just 2 days, the world according to costume play will again assemble for the extravaganza birthed by Ivan Promotions at Corona’s M15 for Club Cosplay 2.0, the second edition of a growing phenomena highlighting shutting out actual reality for that found in fantasy and friendship. With GMO apples and probably salmon appearing unannounced in the marketplace, the world has become a scary place for those inside and outside of Gaza.

With evil fighting evil, it is much more blissful to be in a world where good guys wear white and the bad guys wear black, and if that black is just a little showboat-ty, done with tongue in cheek, so much the better for those who have alter egos rather than those who are mega maniacs. Stop the world – I want to get in costume.

BUILDING THE BUZZ FOR DJ CAMOUFLAGE

MEET CAMERON W. BENBOE

Temecula, CA – When you’re a community news blog that addresses the needs of those in distress, it is nice to get a call to help someone in pleasant circumstances achieve that next level. This request came from a friend that I’ve known since Heck was a pup. 

For those in college or with those memories of the past, was there ever a time that you didn’t need some assistance, even to rock the party? At a time when you are most striving to be an adult or hanging on to that last thread of family before embarking into the [so-called] real world, it’s still nice to get some outside help. After the hatchet job on Murrieta lately, the Temecula Calendar is happy to put forth some good PR to those outside the valley. 

This being a music scene outlet also, meet and greet Cameron W. Benboe, grandson of classmate Ann Elizabeth Long, someone I’ve known since before I could count to twenty-one. Cameron is in a contest and needs your vote as he enters his junior year at Hampton University, a top ranked, upwardly mobile college not unlike Howard but a lot less crowded or known about. However, college is college so every contest carries a prize that helps toward reaching the end goal of graduation.

THOU SHALT KICK ASS

THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY REVIEW [No Spoilers]

Temecula, CA – The red phone has been augmented by my presence on Face Book and that’s where this story starts, with an invite from Thou Shalt Game*, an emporium of comics, board games, figs [miniature action figures], tournaments, etc. through a Cosplay vendor I met at Club Cosplay. 

Opening at 7PM, 2 hours earlier than the advance showing at the Mall’s Edwards Cinemas and $2 cheaper also, Jesse of TSG explained to me that this Digiplex premiere promotion was part of a new effort to attract a larger market share by teaming up with the local popular hangout of geek culture. Surprisingly, though many in the audience were self-admitted ‘geeks’, not everyone identifies, as one young woman remarked behind me, “I didn’t know this was a geek thing, I thought it was an action movie.”

Happily, this is a film for both markets; geeks and non-geeks. For the geeks, they get to see the successful big screen launch of characters from Marvel’s Universe who, like in the plot, were misfits and known only to geeks. For the rest of us, this movie kicks ass in that comic book fashion we have come to love from the likes of Iron Man, The Avengers, and Thor. However, beyond the rock ‘em-sock ‘em cinematics, this movie has heart and depth. You even get the Stan Lee cameo.
